HELEN BLACK and Marlton Travel

To not travel is to only know part of one season

Helen Black
Frank Ham
Yanna - Goffin Cockatoo

Helen was native to Florida and Frank to Georgia.  Work, military and lifestyle changes brought them to the  Philadelphia, Pa. and Southern New Jersey area where they met.

Helen had over 20 years experience in publishing and graphic arts.  As a seasoned traveler since she was 15 years old, she decided to move from publishing to travel. As a child, she would dream of traveling to Peru and Asia.  Travel experiencs include several trips to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and China.  Her trips to Europe were known by many and Lehigh Universiey invited her to join their MBA groups visiting businesses in Italy, Germany, Austria and England.

1991 was when she became part of the First Discount Travel Consortium and by 1996 she purchased two additional travel agencies.  She consideres her best move to be the purchase of the well established "Marlton Travel" agency.  The agency carried the credentials and recognition Helen still advertises today.  "Consortiums and franchises come and go but the honesty and experience of a luxury travel business spans the decades."

Between 1985 and 2008, she toured most of the Caribbean , Hawaii multi-times, Portugal, France, Italy, England, Eastern Europe, Greece, Peru, Ireland and over 25 spas within the United States. Massage therapy was an interest learned from her father and Helen has had massage therapy in every city she visited  in the world.  Owning a travel agency moved her into the world of cruising and she became an Accredited Cruise Counselor.

It was Helen's  goal to relocate to Sevier County , Tennessee.  The area is in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tn.

Fate smiled and Helen moved the multi-location agencies to e-tail.  She, Frank and Marlton Travel moved to E. Tennessee.  The County is one of the top destinations in the US for retirement and relocation. A stable cost of living, incredible beauty and the most friendly people you will ever meet all make this one of the nation's fastest growing areas. You have the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the attractions of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Douglas Lake and close proximity to Cherokee N.C.

A chance meeting with Martin Wilson provided Helen the opportunity to become a REALTOR and  past member of Great Smoky Mountain Board of Realtors and Knoxville Board of Realtors following the move to Tennessee.   After many successful years in real estate,  Helen became very familiar with  Bob Gillespie and Dewayne Cable.

In 2008, Helen became Principal and Managing Broker and opened  "A Frame of Mind Real Estate" for the developer.  Her focus was on the sale of homes in a magnificent 100+ acre tract named "Landmark Point".   After just one  successful year, she had established the real estate company, opened models,  launched an extensive advertising campaign and facilitated an on-site broker with 24/7 availability.  Helen retired her real estate license to devote more time to her travel agency and traveling .

Never far from her love of "Marlton Travel", Helen continued the business through the years and added independent contractors (travel agents)  within the agency.  Known for her "flair for the unusual", Marlton Travel continues working with clients who have a passion for  memorable travel experiences.

The end of 2008 provided Helen and 15 year old Goffin Cockatoo, Yanna, an opportunity to bring some bird-antics to  nursing homes in Jefferson and Sevier Counties.  While she visits,  you can hear some travel stories in-between performances by Yanna.

Here is one of Helen's  favorite quotes  "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page"...St. Augustine
